Anyone trying to build muscle will confess that it is not an easy a task as it may sound. Building muscle requires a lot of hard work both in doingexercises and following adiet. So, what is it that you must do if you are trying to gain muscle?Let us discuss it in detail.

The first and most important thing that you must know is that fat and muscle do not go hand in hand. If you are obese or overweight; you can forget about building muscle. Your first goal must be losingweight and fat. Only when you lose the unwanted mass of fat will you be able to gain muscle. To do that you need to follow a healthy diet which is low in calorie and fat and high on nutrition. A diet coupled with exercise alone can make you lose unwanted fat.

Diet for Building Muscle

Protein is essential when you are trying to build muscle. Increase the protein intake in your diet. The best source of protein is red meat followed by fish, eggs, milk, cheese and chicken. The vegetarian foods that are rich in protein are soya and all types of beans. Include these foods in your diet to increase the protein in your daily intake.

Protein supplements such as whey proteinis commercially available and isalso known to be beneficial in building muscle.

Exercise for Building Muscle

Exercise can be divided into two types:free hand exercise and exercisingwith the help of equipment. Both these forms can be used for building muscle.

  • Free Hand Exercise – These have been the traditional exercises that have been around for years. The exercises that can help to build muscles are crunches, sit-ups, lunges and pushups. These can be done without the help of any equipment and do not require a trainer either. This form of exercise becomes effective as you increase the number of sets you do each day. The more sets you do the better the chances of building lean muscle faster
  • Exercises with Equipment – There arevarious types of equipments that areused for building muscles. The most commonly used equipments for bodybuildingareweights. Weights in the form of dumbbells are used for building muscle. Dumbbells come in different weights and as time progresses the weight must be increased as you exercise with the dumbbells. Dumbbells focus on the biceps.

The other forms of equipment used for muscle building are strength building devices. These include rowing machines, resistance bands and portable tubes. Strength training is the best way for building muscle at home.

Gym equipment can also be used for building muscle. There are various exercise machines in the gym that target different musclesin the body. They can effectively tone all the muscles in the body.

Whichever method of muscle building you choose, remember to follow it with a proper diet and the results will surprise you.
